More Bad News: Jags place CB Derek Cox on Injured/Reserve

The Jaguar’s secondary has taken another big blow:

The Jacksonville Jaguars today placed cornerback Derek Cox on injured reserve with a knee injury and signed first-year quarterback Dan LeFevour to a contract. LeFevour had been on the Indianapolis Colts practice squad.

Cox has started 33 games since he was drafted in the third round of the 2009 draft.  He started six games in 2011 and finished with 16 tackles and 10 passes defensed.  He led the club in interceptions in each of his first two seasons.

LeFevour, 6-3, 230, was a sixth-round draft pick of the Chicago Bears in 2010.  He was claimed off waivers by Cincinnati on Sept. 5, 2010 and spent the entire season on the Bengals 53-man roster, though he was inactive for all 16 games as the third quarterback.  LeFevour spent the 2011 preseason with the Bengals before he was waived on final cuts.  He was signed to the Colts practice squad on Nov. 9.

A native of Lisle, Illinois, LeFevour was a four-year starter at Central Michigan.  He finished his career by completing 1,171 of 1,763 passes (66.4 pct.) for 12,905 yards with 102 touchdowns and 35 interceptions.  He added 2,948 rushing yards and 47 touchdowns.  His 150 total touchdowns are the most in the NCAA Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I) while his 15,853 yards of total offense rank second.  LeFevour is the only player in NCAA history with 12,000 career passing yards and 2,500 career rushing yards.  A four-time All-MAC selection, he holds conference records for total offense, passing yards, touchdown passes, completions and attempts.

As a senior, LeFevour was named MAC Offensive Player of the Year and received 13 points in balloting for the Heisman Trophy.  He graduated in December of 2009 with a bachelor of applied arts degree.  He attended Benet High School in Illinois and lettered in football and basketball.

LeFevour will wear jersey number 13.

Catching up with Jags CB Derek Cox

Cornerback Derek Cox is entering his third NFL season and has thus far spent his entire career with the Jaguars.  He emerged onto the scene last year when Jacksonville was desperatly trying to solve some problems in the secondary and since then, has played a role defensively for the Jags.  Earlier today, I had a chance to talk with him about the way the defense has been performing, how his game is changing, his injury battles, and more:  JBwithDerekCox
